For the 2024 model year, Ford completely revamped the mid-size Ranger pickup truck, giving it a bolder front appearance inspired by the bigger F-150. The same turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine powers the American version of the Ranger as the existing truck, and it will remain so until 2024, even if Ford offers the truck with a turbodiesel V-6 engine in various other countries. This year, a more potent twin-turbo gasoline-fired V-6 engine enters the range; both engines come with the option of four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. The high-performance Ranger Raptor variation is the one that has us most thrilled, but we evaluate that model separately. There are two different body designs available for the previous Ranger, but the new one is limited to being a crew cab with four full-size doors. After a significant redesign, the inside now has a sizable entertainment system positioned vertically, like to the one available on more expensive Edge SUV models. Later this year, when the 2024 Ranger arrives on sale, the Toyota Tacoma, GMC Canyon, and Chevrolet Colorado—all of which are riding strong after recent redesigns—will provide new rivals.

What Is 2024 Bringing?

We anticipate that the all-new, fifth-generation Ranger will go on sale as a 2024 model before the end of 2023.

Cost and Selection of Items for Purchase

The 2024 Ford Ranger ranges in price from $34,265 to $45,225, depending on the model and extras.

Powerplant, Transfer Case, and Efficiency

Entry-level Rangers are equipped with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as in the previous model. With 270 horsepower, the engine should be more than enough to maneuver the mid-size truck, in our opinion. With the new model, we don't anticipate that to alter. On higher grades, a new 2.7-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine producing 315 horsepower is available. Both come with the option of four- or rear-wheel drive and are matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Take a look at the more adventurous Ranger Raptor, which we assess separately, for the best performance and off-road enjoyment.

Capacity for Payload and Towing

Any engine you select will allow the Ranger to pull up to 7500 pounds. The maximum payload rating of the truck decreases to 1711 pounds with four-wheel drive from 1805 pounds with rear-wheel drive variants.

Cargo, Comfort, and Interior

With a textured dashboard trim, honeycomb-patterned air vents, and an optional digital gauge display, the Ranger's interior gets a contemporary makeover. An extensive number of the truck's buttons and controls have been digitally converted and integrated into the infotainment system. The new Ranger's interior design has many internal storage options designed by Ford, such as a concealed higher glovebox behind the dashboard, bigger door pocket cubbies, and storage beneath the back seat of the truck. This time, there is just one body style available: the SuperCrew crew cab, which has four full-size doors and enough for five people.

Connectivity and Entertainment

The base infotainment screen is 10.1 inches, but buyers who want technology may upgrade to an even larger 12.4-inch screen that is positioned vertically. Operating on both, Ford's most recent Sync 4 interface offers users access to all of the Ranger's functions, including switching on the truck's outside lights to illuminate a job site or providing enough illumination to complete setting up camp in the dark. A digital gauge display measuring 8.0 or 12.4 inches is also included with all versions. Along with the expected additions of wireless smartphone charging, in-dash navigation, and SiriusXM satellite radio, standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Features for Safety and Driver Assistance

Although the Ranger has basic driver assistance technologies as standard, more sophisticated technology requires upgrading to a higher trim level or purchasing an option package. Luckily, the option packages are reasonably priced for individuals who desire these systems. Visit the websites of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for further details on the Ranger's crash test results. Important safety characteristics consist of:
  • Automated emergency braking
  • Standard forward-collision warning
  • Available adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert

Guarantee and Upkeep Reportage

Ford offers a fair warranty for the Ranger. There isn't free scheduled maintenance offered for the Ranger, unlike the Tacoma, Colorado, and Canyon.
  • The three-year or three 6,000-mile limited warranty
  • Five years or 60,000 miles are covered by the powertrain warranty.
  • No free planned maintenance
